Jack Abbott gets ready for Brampton
The weekend of 15th & 16th April sees the Thor British Youth Nationals stop off at Brampton, Cumbria for round two of the premier youth championship.
We caught up with local rider Jack Abbott, who competes in the Big Wheel 85cc class, to see how he’s getting on in preparation for next weekend and his plans for Brampton.
With Brampton being a local track for you and we see the Thor British Youth Nationals series make its second stop there, what’s your thoughts on the track, as many say it’s a technical sand track?
“The track is one of the best in the country as its really technical, which gets rough with the deep sand and steep drops.”
What are your plans for the second round, have you been training since the opening round of the championship at Culham in preparation for your local race?
“I do fitness training with Maxxis British Championship rider Jay Lamb once a week. We have been concentrating on endurance training for the longer British races and demanding Brampton circuit.”
Can you tell us a little bit about your past in motocross, how you got into it and how you’ve done so far?
“I started racing when I was seven years old at local events. I first made the move to national level back in 2014 when I signed up to the Thor British Youth Nationals in the junior 65cc class, where I finished 8th overall for the year. I have competed in the championship ever since in the small wheel 85cc class, however I have had quite a few injuries so I have missed many rounds.”
What are your plans and goals for the rest of the championship?
“I would like to finish in the top 20 this year in the Big Wheel 85cc class.”
As Brampton is your home race, could you tell us why locals should get behind this event and come see the best youth riders in the country?
“Brampton is one of the best tracks in the country. With some really good and fast riders in all of the classes, it will be a really great event to watch.”
