The YZ125 Cup is closing in on October 8th. At the Veltins Arena Superfinal the 46 top YZ125 riders from around Europe will get their chance to race in front of 50,000 motocross fans for the prize of a masterclass with David Philippaerts and a professional contract in 2017 with Yamaha. This summer bLU cRU riders in Sweden, Italy and the United Kingdom have all been testing themselves in their national championships and leaders are emerging for the spots available at the starting gate in Germany.
With five of seven races completed in the Swedish 125 Championship, YZ125 Cup bLU cRU riders Tim Edberg and Alvin Lüning lead the points table after the most recent race in Tomelilla on July 17th. Norwegian teenager Jörgen Hölen fills out the all-Nordic podium in third. Edberg, who finished fourth overall in Tomelilla, is out in front with 169 points, and has a 45 point advantage over Lüning, who crossed the line sixth in that race.
The Italian 125cc National Championship is three races for Central and Southern Italy and three races for the North. The YZ125 Cup runs concurrently and is filled with some of the strongest and most talented young motocross riders in the country. Three final races in July and September are scheduled, and the standings after July's first race at Ponte e Egola the top five bLU cRU riders are Manuel Ulivi, Mattia Guadagnini, Lorenzo Rossi, Niccolo Folli and Mirco Dalbosco.
Many of these same Italian bLU cRU riders in the YZ125 Cup attended the MXGP of Lombardia in Mantova in early July as VIP guests. The young motocross riders got exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the Yamaha Factory Team paddocks, and met with American motocross superstar Chad Reed and other Yamaha riders, mechanics and staff during the two-day event.
England's 2016 125cc championship has seen three of six events so far this season, and the YZ125 bLU cRU has seen a wide range of talent in the series, including Tom Grimshaw's round two victory and Bill Moynes steady placings in different track conditions in Doncaster, Cumbria and Scotland.
Three more YZ125 Cup races in the United Kingdom will help determine who goes to Germany in October, and we can look forward to seeing if Grimshaw, Moynes and challenger Jordan Hearn will come out on top at motocross weekends in Northamptonshire, Wales or Salisbury before the Championship is decided.
