Dunlop announces Spirit of Weston Award
As the HydroGarden Weston Beach Race edges ever closer, on the 7-9 October 2016, Dunlop has announced in collaboration with RHL Activities that it will provide two VIP tickets to the Motocross of Nations 2017 at Matterley Basin for a chosen racer or spectator seen to be getting into the ‘Spirit of Weston’.
The Dunlop brand is synonymous with racing, and with its commitment to the development of the highest quality racing products, the tyre manufacturer will be attending the HydroGarden Weston Beach race with a display, while also offering hot drinks to those with a Dunlop Lanyard, which is included in this year’s competitor goodie bag. On display will be some of the latest in car tyre technology, as well as its extensive street and off-road range, where technical experts will be on-hand to discuss Dunlop’s products.
During the event competitors will be treated to a number of Dunlop goodies, while race-goers can help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support by making a £1 donation in return for one of the popular Dunlop caps from the Dunlop stand.
But, that’s not all. Dunlop is committed to supporting racing events, and with this in mind the tyre manufacturer will give away an unbelievable prize for this year’s ‘Spirit of Weston’ award. One lucky spectator or competitor will win VIP tickets to next year’s Motocross of Nations in Matterley Basin, UK, with special access to the paddock and hospitality suite (travel and accommodation not included). The winner will be selected by the world famous Robbie Maddison, a world record holder, FMX star and stunt rider that will also try to tackle some of the HydroGarden Weston Beach Race course for the very first time.
“Dunlop produces some of the industry’s leading tyres for motocross bikes, and the HydroGarden Weston Beach Race is the perfect forum to put them to the test. As one of the UK’s most gruelling courses, the Beach Race allows Dunlop to show their products in the most extreme of conditions. The event is also a good environment for Dunlop technicians to talk to riders and learn about product performance and potential product requirements for the future. It’s also great that we are giving a prize to someone who captures the ‘Spirit of Weston’ and of course to have such a worldwide star, Robbie Maddison, who rides Dunlop, to select the winner” – Tony Ward, Dunlop Brand Manager
“The ‘Spirit of Weston’ award is something we definitely want to make an annual thing, as it’s an important aspect of what the HydroGarden Weston Beach race is all about. It can be awarded to someone racing in a funny outfit, a spectator really getting into the spirit of the event, a rider helping another rider – it really could be a wide array of things, and this year the winner will be selected by Robbie Maddison. I’d like to thank Dunlop for offering such an incredible prize, and also for their support of our event in general. It’s a great opportunity for Dunlop to engage closely with fans of the sport and their customers, while showcasing their products, but also it’s important for us to work with major manufacturers in the industry to help us all achieve our goals,” – Director of RHL Activities, Gareth Hockey
