Weston Beach Race - 12 October 2017

Primary School Students enjoy day out at HydroGarden Weston Beach Race

Students from Gillingstool primary school enjoyed a special visit to the HydroGarden Weston Beach Race site today ahead of this year’s event, which takes place this weekend in Weston-Super-Mare.

Children from the school were invited by RHL Activities, the organisers of the event, after one student wrote a letter showing interest in the race some months ago. Following a school assembly with staff from RHL Activities talking about the race, the class three children were given the opportunity to come and see the site during the build-up to the biggest off-road event on the UK calendar.

After an introduction to the race given by Director of RHL Activities, Gareth Hockey, the children took part in a colouring competition before seeing some of the star riders in action for some demo laps of the beach. A second team competition was held on the dunes where the children and teachers had the chance to see the dunes up close in the search for a flag challenge, followed by being given goodie bags and a signing session with Red Bull KTM Factory Motocross star Jonny Walker and multi-time British quad racing champion, Paul Winrow. The students were certainly in awe of the size of the event and the chance to see some awesome action on the beach.

Tori Winfield Teacher of Class three - “It’s been a fantastic experience and a lot of great fun for everybody. I think they got a lot out of it to see the track being built, and new things such as the bikes going around the track. It was very informative, they thoroughly enjoyed it and to see an event of this scale before it opens fully to the public was a good opportunity for them. They took part in some special activities and challenges too, which I’m sure will be talked about in the classroom for weeks to come.”
