Honda Adventure Centre Team Rider Callum Green gets ready for Duns
The countdown is on to the Duns, Scotland round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship which takes place on July 29. Honda Adventure Centre team rider Callum Green, who is competing in the MXY2 support class at the Maxxis, is looking for another strong weekend to retain his lead at the top of the series.
The opening round of the MXY2 support class was at Blaxhall in May, where Callum clinched the head of the standings after some very close battling with Rossi Beard, who took two of the three moto wins.
Callum is no stranger to the youth motocross scene in the United Kingdom. In 2016 after an outstanding year and walking away with 14 out of 30 available race wins, Callum was crowned the 2016 Thor ACU British Youth 125cc Championship Champion. 2017 saw Callum sit out from racing due to an injury, but having seen his performance since his return, he is a rider to look out for.
We caught up with Callum ahead of Duns to see how his season and his preparation for the weekend is going:
RHL: This year you are running under the Honda Adventure Centre team. How is the season going for you and does it feel to be within the team?
Callum: “The season is going pretty well so far. I’m happy to keep getting podiums and being at the front after having such a long time away from racing due to an injury last year, so yes it’s going good. The team is great; they are very professional, which is what I need. Everyone works hard on the team and we all work well together. I am pleased to be a part of the team.”
RHL: The opening round for the MXY2 Support class in the Maxxis was at Blaxhall. How was it for? How did you feel with your results and set-up?
Callum: “You know Blaxhall was good for me. Getting my first win of the year and my first Maxxis win was good. It was a big thing for me, as I have never had a Maxxis podium. I just want to keep working hard now to get a few more wins and be consistent until the end of the year. I would have liked to have won another moto at Blaxhall, but it just wasn’t there and I was still trying to get back into race mode.”
RHL: You’re currently leading the MXY2 Support class with only two points ahead of Rossi Beard, who is currently leading the Steve Benton Transport British Under 21 Championship. How do you feel going into Duns for the next round?
Callum: “Yes I am currently leading the MXY2 class and I’m hoping, obviously, to keep the Championship lead. Rossi has been very quick so far this year and is on a bit of a roll. I’ve also been having some good finishes and I’ve been getting better with the set-up of the bike; I am feeling like we can be closer and battle it for the wins, so I’m feeling very confident going to Duns.”
RHL: Have you raced at Duns before, if so how did you do and how did you feel about the track?
Callum: “I’ve never ridden at Duns, before but I have seen videos and it looks like a track I will hopefully go well at. I am looking forward to it.”
RHL: What is your approach for Duns and what’s your goal for the season?
Callum: “My plan hasn’t really changed, I am just taking each race as it comes and staying calm. It’s not a long season for us MXY2 riders so every win or good finish counts. I am trying to be consistent as this is what has let me down in past years. I am feeling confident for the end of the year and can hopefully win both Championships that I am entered in.”
