Students once again will be heading to Weston-super-Mare this month for the 2018 HydroGarden Weston Beach Race Powered by KTM Schools Day in the lead up to the race weekend, which takes place on October 19-21.

Last year RHL Activities welcomed Gillingstool Primary School to the HydroGarden Weston Beach Race for an educational day on the beach and a look behind the scenes of such a large-scale operation. The youngsters were given a tour of the site of the race, which is the UK’s biggest motorsport event, whilst also engaging in a number of different activities throughout the day.

On Wednesday October 17 students from year three will head to the beach for the day to see the RHL team during their final preparations for this year’s race. The juniors will take part in a number of activities, whilst also being given the opportunity to spend time with title sponsors of the event, HydroGarden, for an introduction to the world of hydroponics and to extend their education of growing plants. It will be a hands-on day with demonstrations and information intended to inspire the children when it comes to motorsport, the beach, large events and perhaps also to help them consider their career path in future.

Tom Mullins, Deputy Headteacher commented “Gillingstool are really excited to be working with RHL Activities again this year. Last year the team at RHL went above and beyond for us. They gave the children an exciting insight into events management and motorsports through thrilling VIP experiences. The children came back to school and shared their unique experience with their parents and the rest of the school in an assembly; so our current Year 3 class are already buzzing with excitement for this year’s trip. As a school we really value our strong links with RHL Activities as it gives us a chance to broaden our pupils’ learning experience. The amount of learning that comes from a trip like this is invaluable. Thank you RHL Activities.”

Gareth Hockey, Director of RHL Activities commented “I am pleased to be welcoming students from Gillingstool Primary School back to the beach for this year’s event for our annual Schools Day on the Wednesday before the event. Last year was a good experience for the pupils and it was great to meet so many of them who want to take part in our sport. We take great pride in encouraging youngsters to consider the world of motorsport as part of their future, whether that be in event management, course building, media relations or even racing themselves. It gives us an opportunity to give something back and show young people the possibilities within our world.”
