SJP Moto’s Finley Evans looks to extend British Championship lead at Desertmartin
The SJP Moto rider Finley Evans has had a positive first half to the 2019 Judd KTM British Youth Championship by currently holding the red plate for the British Small Wheel 85cc Championship. Finley currently leads with a 14 point gap.
The Championship heads to Northern Ireland to the Desertmartin circuit on the weekend of August 17thand 18th, where Finley is looking to extend his points lead as the Championship heads into the final half of the 2019 season.
Check out what Finley had to say when we caught up with him.
We are now heading into the final half of the 2019 season. How has the season gone so far for you? Has there been any highlight moments?
Finley Evans: “The season so far has been absolutely fantastic. I guess the highlight for me has to got to be winning my first event British Youth Championship race at Culham earlier this year.”
At the last round you had a strong weekend at Fatcats for the third stop of the Official British Youth Motocross Championship. How was it for you? Can you talk us through the weekend for you?
Finley Evans: “Fatcats was a bit up and down for me. I was in second at the end of the day on Saturday which meant I knew what I had to do on the Sunday to keep hold of the red plate. All was going well until race four when I made a couple of stupid mistakes and gave a few points away. Thankfully I managed to keep it together and extend my points lead.”
You currently lead the British Small Wheel 85cc Championship with 14 points gap from second place rider Tyla Hooley. How does it feel leading the Official ACU British Championship and do you think you can keep the top spot?
Finley Evans: “It feels amazing. I went into the season knowing that I wanted to be in the lead but it’s a strong group this year. I will do all I can on and off the track to try and keep hold of the red plate.”
We now head to Desertmartin on August 17th & 18th for the fourth round. Desertmartin is known as one of the best tracks in Europe. What are your thoughts on the circuit, and can you tell us a bit about your plans and goals for the weekend?
Finley Evans: “I love Desertmartin. It’s such a good track and I would love it if we could go every year. Obviously, I want to go out and smash it and it would be nice to make the points gap a bit bigger.”
Can you tell us what you get up to in between meetings in regard to training and bike time?
Finley Evans: “In between races I train with Ashley Wilde and RMJ Academy. At home I either go running, do circuits in our garage or I got to the local gym called Lift in Crewkerne.”
