Weston Beach Race - 16 October 2019

An exceptional racer, a passionate quad rider and a much-loved Yorkshire-lass are all phrases that have been used to describe the very talented Katie Hodgson, who sadly lost her life earlier this year. After what has been an indescribably difficult time for the 24-year-old’s family, they wanted to share some positivity at one of the races Katie loved most. With that in mind RHL is pleased to announce that the highest placed female quad racer in the Quadzilla Quad and Sidecar class at this year’s Weston Beach Race, which takes place on October 18-20, will be awarded with the Katie Hodgson Trophy.
Katie and her family are well-known in the quad racing fraternity and the lady from Driffield, Yorkshire had many achievements to her name, whilst also excelling in her other passion, horse riding. A determined and gritty competitor, Katie is the only lady to complete every day in crossover at the Hunt The Wolf event, she won the DQR Ladies class championship in 2017, the 4x4 Lights class at the DQR in the same year – a feat she repeated in both categories in 2018, and perhaps one of her proudest accolades amongst many others is when she finished second in the 4x4 class at the Weston Beach Race two years ago.
The #141 was a much-loved racer and this special award is aimed at remembering Katie, inspiring female racers whilst also recognising the achievement of the fastest lady at the biggest motorsport event in the UK – The Weston Beach Race.
Katie’s family said: “We want Katie Hodgson to be remembered for the talented Quad rider that she was, having competed in many events/championships in the UK and abroad. With one of her finest hours finishing second in the 4x4 class at Weston Beach race, with this award we want everyone to remember her and inspire other female riders to be rewarded for their efforts like she was.”
