Team GRT headed to Kent this weekend, for Round 4 of the Revo ACU British Motocross Championship at Canada Heights. This week, GRT riders featured in the Big Wheel 85, 125 Youth, and Pro MX2 classes. We also had the introduction of a new rider in the 125cc class, Erez Melman. Erez is Israeli born, and will be living and training with Ollie Colmer to push his career further in Britain and Europe.
Big Wheel 85 Championship leader Bill Askew came into the weekend full of growing confidence and with the wind in his sails this year. Billy once again showed incredible speed, poise and consistency to win both Moto’s once again, for another perfect weekend. He now extends his championship lead to a healthy 35 points.
With a triple-threat in the 125 Youth class, we were looking forward to watching the boys racing this weekend. We weren’t disappointed, as Joe Brookes managed to ride home to a win in Moto 1. Joe lead the race from start to finish, showing composure and consistency to put himself in a great position for the overall. Ollie Colmer showed great pace all day, but an unfortunate crash on the start forced him to come from way behind the back of the pack. Ollie managed to put on a charge and get back up to 14th at the finish line.Newcomer Erez Melman didn’t get off to the best of starts, however made some good passes early, and despite a small crash on the last lap, came home in 18th position.
In Moto 2, Brookes got off to another good start and lead some good laps early on. He slipped back towards the end of the Moto, eventually finishing 3rd, but it was enough to give Joe his first overall victory in GRT Impact KTM colours.Ollie had a much better start in Moto 2, starting just behind Brookes. He would stay consistent all race, even leading some laps too, eventually coming home in 2nd place. An unfortunate Moto 1 left him off the podium this weekend, despite having the speed to.Melman would have a little better start in Moto 2, and was having good battles all race within the pack. He managed to cross the line in 16th place, and now has a base to work on for next round.
Finally, our Pro MX2 rider Jamie Carpenter had a consistent weekend. He showed good speed, but his starts didn’t allow for the best finishing position, with a fast group of riders at the front of the pack. He came from outside the top 10 in both races, to finish 6th and 7th in his respective Moto’s. Another solid weekend keeps Jamie 3rd in the Championship standings before heading to Blaxhall in June.
This weekend the team will split up to to continue their racing journeys. Some will head back to Lyng for the Michelin MX Nationals, and our three 125cc riders will taking part in the European Championship (EMX125) in Madrid, Spain.
