Top 4 for Grimshaw and Chambers Racing at Foxhill Revo as McCormick Goes Top 10
20th April, 2022

This Easter Weekend saw the Chambers Racing team head to the historic Foxhill near Swindon for the second round of the Revo ACU British Motocross Championship fuelled by Gulf Race Fuels, looking to improve on their results from the opening round.

Following a week of dry weather, the track was in a very dry condition, but the organisers watered the track heavily overnight to ensure that dust wasn’t an issue in the morning.

The morning started with the qualifying sessions and in the MX2 class, Tom Grimshaw returned to the MX2 class and finished 7th fastest, with Alfie Jones in 18th place. In the MX1 class Glenn McCormick produced a solid lap to secure 14th fastest with Ben Putnam 21st fastest and Harvey Cashmore was 18th fastest in the Youth 250 class.

In the opening MX2 race of the Tom Grimshaw made a strong start and moved into 8th on the opening lap and continued to challenge the riders ahead and made a pass to take 7th position but had lost the tow on the leading riders and although Tom continued to try and close the gap it wasn’t possible on the fast and dry circuit. For Alfie it was to be a tough race after starting outside the top 20 and moving into 18th before a crash dropped him outside the points and he had to recover to finish 17th.

The second MX2 race saw Tom make a great start and round the first corner inside the top 3 and battling with the leading pair. When the leader made a mistake and went down, Tom moved into second and settled into the position. Later in the race, Tom lost a position to Conrad Mewse who was recovering from a first corner crash. Once in third Tom rode strong to the finish to take third but was later promoted to second after Mewse was punished for an on-track incident. The result saw Tom claim 4th overall on the day and moved up in the Championship. Meanwhile, Alfie had a tough race after crashing at the start and having to recover from the back of the field and battled his way up to 15that the flag and 15th overall on the day.

In the opening MX1 race Glenn made a good start inside the top 10 and battled at the front for the duration of the moto and went onto finish in 9th place at the flag. For Ben it was a solid moto after starting outside the top 20 and pushing forward to claim 15th at the flag.

The final MX1 race would see Glenn make another good start and run just outside the top 10, before moving into 10th on the final laps and take the flag. The 9 – 10 scorecard gave Glenn 10th overall on the day. Unfortunately for Ben it was a tough moto after being outside the top 20, Ben would later retire from the Moto after struggling to settle into the race.

In the Youth 250 class, Harvey suffered from bad starts in both races and had to battle forward to claim a 14 – 15 scorecard for 17th overall on the day.

Tim Chambers
– Team owner – It’s been a good weekend, in qualifying Tom got stuck in and was fully committed back on the 250 after being on the 450 last weekend at the GP to take 7th. In the first race, he did not get the best of starts but worked hard and got up to 7th on a track that was hard to pass. Then in the second race he got a start and went at it and rode great inside the top 3 and moving into 2nd for most of the race before crossing the line in 3rd but was later awarded 2nd in the race and 4th overall after a penalty was given to Mewse. It was a great day’s racing for Tom. In the MX1 class Glenn rode great today and was building on his speed from last weekend to claim 9th and 10th for 10thoverall and his best results in the class. Young Alfie had some tough races but secured points in both races in MX2, while Ben Putnam managed to score points in the opening moto of MX1 and young Harvey in the Youth 250 suffered from bad starts all day but recovered well for good points. Overall, it’s been a great weekend and very positive results for the team, and we look forward to the next event.

#16 Tom Grimshaw

Tom Grimshaw – This weekend has been really good for me, in the first race I got 7th and I was happy with that, I just struggled to get around someone which gave the lead riders the chance to pull away. I managed to close in on 6th at the end, but it could have been a little bit better, but I was still happy. Then in the second race I got a good start and could see Jamie ahead and Karssemakers was leading and then he went down, and I was in second and it became really easy and enjoyable race without being hit by rocks etc. Towards the end Conrad was coming and he had more pace, so I let him go and followed him for third and I am buzzing. It is my best finish ever in the British and after the race I was then awarded 2nd and 4th overall so I am over the moon.

#337 Glen McCormick

Glenn McCormick – It’s been an awesome weekend; we did the event at Marshfield on Friday and then came here for today and it started well in qualifying with 14th which I was happy with. Then in races I got two good starts and got stuck in and battled at the front end and came away with a 9th and 10thfor my two best results, so it is a big positive and step in the right direction.

#731 Alfie Jones

Alfie Jones – It has been good today, in the first race I had a good start but was pushed out wide and had to come through the pack before having a small off and then had to come back through again to finish 17th. In the second race I went down on the start and pushed through the pack and even after running into another rider I came back through to finish 15th which was good.

#20 Ben Putnam

Ben Putnam – Today went okay but after not the best qualifying position which led to not the best starts in the races. I’m definitely feeling more comfortable on the bike which is a plus and I’m going to use that attitude at the next round at Lyng which I’m looking forward to.

#10 Harvey Cashmore

Harvey Cashmore – It has been a good weekend but bad starts in both races made it hard for me, so I need to work on them. The track was dry and tough, and I battled through both races to score some good points, but I need to work hard on my starts before the next event.
